PCS Client Application Remote Capabilities
The PCS Control Software was designed from the start to support Remote Operation. The result of this design was a light-weight, message-based application (GUI) that is completely decoupled from the actual Process Control of the System. Within the Client Application the user can connect to Remote Machines by simply selecting the desired Machine Name from a drop-down list. The Client Application offers the same functionality whether connected to a Remote or Local Machine. Additionally, the User Permissions may be changed to restrict specific users from certain functionality on Remote Machines. For instance, you might want to allow all types of Remote operation except for Starting and Stopping Runs. The diagram presented below represents the Remote functionality of the PCS Client Application. There are no restrictions on the number of concurrent Remote Connections that can be made to the same Machine. There are obviously, certain precautions that must be taken when allowing 'Control' from different points of access.
